After graduating from Baldwin High School, she moved to Oahu and enrolled in the nursing program at St. Francis Hospital where she earned her R.N. degree. Also at that time, she became a devout Catholic, a faith she practiced the rest of her life. She then attended Marquette Univ. in Milwaukee, WI for a bachelor's degree in public health nursing. Katayama, raised four daughters, and worked for the Army and Air Force Exchange Services in Okinawa before retiring to Hawaii. Preceded in death by her husband, she is survived by daughters, Karen K. Fox, Naomi (Ken) Gibo, Tina (Wayne) Ogimachi, Anna (Carl Stall) Katayama, 8 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She passed away peacefully at home on May 1, 2026. She graduated from Hilo High School in 1956 then attended Monterey Peninsula College and majored in Sports Medicine. She was employed by Bekins Moving and Storage for 27 years and was also the Librarian for 15 years at St. Ann School in Kaneohe and there after retired in 2009.
