Jan 29(1.) MARK "GONZO" GONSALES Age 54, of Honolulu, Hawaii, passed away on Monday, October 24, 2022. Mark is survived by mother Madeleine Gonsales, brothers Bodie, Guy, Chad, Jason, Brian, Curtis, sisters Angela Rivera and Sabrina Sekona, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Herbert Gonsales. Mark's Funeral Service will be held at 10:00am on February 6th, 2023 at Hawaiian Memorial Park Funeral Home, 45-425 Kamehameha Hwy, Kaneohe, Hawaii. Jan 29(2.) MICHAEL PHILIP CHU Age 77, of Kailua, passed away on December 6, 2022. Previously worked as an educator and administrator and enjoyed teaching students of all ages. He loved working with others and meeting new people in the community, especially while working as a security guard at Windward City Shopping Center. He was the President of the Kailua Community Basketball League and also helped referee and coach. Michael is survived by his wife, Donna, his daughter, Michelle, his son Philip, and one granddaughter. Jan 29(3.) STANLEY ISAO SAKAMOTO 84, of Pearl City, a retired Bank of Hawaii employee, passed away on November 20, 2022. He was born in Lahaina, Maui. Jan 29(4.) MARY LUCIA SCHULTZ 90, of Honolulu, died December 29, 2022. She was born in Olds, Canada. Her adventurous spirit led her to Hawaii in 1960 where she met her husband, Jens Robert Schultz. They were soon married and raised three children. Her family was her life. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a long time member of First Presbyterian Church. She is survived by sister, Patricia Schuh of Canada, daughters Heather (Shawn) Nakakura, Deborah (John) Oyakawa, son Jeff (Lisa) Schultz, 7 grand- children, 1 great-granddaughter and many nieces and nephews. Jan 29(5.) RICKY TAKESHI TAKAHASHI 64, formerly of Honolulu, passed away on August 31, 2022 in California. He was a General Manager Specialist for the Marriott Hotels. He is survived by his Mother, Kikuyo Takahashi; Siblings, Craig Takahashi, Lori (Kenn) Higa; Niece, Stacie Higa; Nephew, Travis Higa; Grand- Nephew, Rylan Higa; Preceded in death by Father, Kenzo Takahashi. Jan 29(6.) YOSHITO HIRONAKA 91, passed away peacefully on Christmas Day, December 25, 2022 and joined his beloved wife Gladys and daughter Faye in Heaven. He was born and raised in Mt. View/Hilo, attended the University of Hawaii and graduated with a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering. After 2 years in the U.S Air Force, he was honorably discharged as a First Lieutenant. Yoshito began his 35-year career at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard, moving up the ranks to become GM-15 assistant head of Planning Department, U.S. Naval Engineering Command Pacific Division. Jan 29(7.) PAUL S. HIGASHIHARA Born May 16, 1942, Paul passed away peacefully at home on November 6, 2022 surrounded by his family. He co-founded Pacific Preferred Contractors and was President until his retirement in 2012. He enjoyed traveling to Vegas and Japan, and spending time with family. He is survived by his wife Shirley; children Dan (Rhonda) and Wendy; grandchildren Rydan (Aaliyah) and Charis; sister Evelyn (Roy) Murakami. Jan 29(9.) MASAKO HAGIWARA (HIGA) Passed away peacefully on November 27, 2022. Masako was born and raised in Tokyo, Japan, where she graduated in 1966 from Kiyoritsu Women's University, majoring in English Literature. Masako traveled to Hawaii to attend UH Manoa and graduated in 1981 with a B.A. in Travel Industry Management. Masako owned her own real estate company and practiced as a real estate broker. Masako is survived by her husband, Victor Higa. Together they have 3 children: Angela Jacso (44, attorney), Victor Hagiwara (40, Military Aircraft Inspector), and Audrey Hagiwara (29, physician). Jan 29(10.) ESTELLE MITSUE KIYAMA Of Aina Haina, Hawaii, passed away on November 17, 2022. She was born in Honolulu to George and Betsy Yamada on July 2, 1940. She attended Kapalama Elementary, Stevenson Intermediate and Roosevelt High School class of 1958. Estelle's teaching career spanned 35 years at Kaawa Elementary, Wailupe Elementary, and Kamiloiki Elementary Schools. Beyond her passion for teaching, she was a leader in developing staff workshops and building the gifted and talented program. Estelle loved her boxer dogs, crafting, travelling, shopping, and especially lunching with friends. Estelle is pre-deceased by husband Wayne. She is survived by her sister (...)
