Vivian Harada Saruwatari passed away peacefully on February 28, 2018. She was laid to rest with her husband Kenneth K. Saruwatari at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in April.
She was born to Kinu and Tsunetaro Harada and was raised in Honolulu. She attended and graduated from McKinley High School and the University of Hawai’i. Following college she married Kenneth and moved East to New Jersey while he attend Rutgers University School of Law, then in Newark.
Following Kenneth’s law school graduation they returned home to live, work and start a family. Son Kenn was born shortly after they returned home and his brother Jonn three years later.
While mainly a stay at home Mom Vivian was employed for a time at AA Jewelry and Antiques
She is survived by sons Kenn (Barbara Kitashima) and Jonn (June) and granddaughters Kristen, Michele and Samantha Saruwatari. She is very fondly remembered for cooking many Sunday family feasts. Her immediate family is grateful for family and friends who have cared for her through the years since Kenneth’s passing in 2000, in particular Mrs. Winnie Namba. We are also grateful for the kind care she received in her last years at 15 Craigside. |
