VALENTINE KALIPO ROWE Valentine (Val) Kalipo Rowe, of Kaneohe, loving husband, dad and papa passed away on March 29, 2018 at the age of 86. Although he was born in Honolulu, he spent most of his youth in Kapoho on the Island of Hawaii. After graduating from Pahoa High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. While there, he enrolled in a Machine Accounting Course and received his foundation for his long career in IT. When he completed his tour of duty, he enrolled in Cannon’s School of Business and graduated in July 1956. Because he was a Korean War veteran, he qualified for a job in the federal government. In 1961, he left the government for 2 years to teach the first generation of computers at Automation Training Center, a part of Honolulu Business College. There he met and married the love of his life, Kathryn (Kathy) Molina. They were married in 1963 and would have been married 55 years on August 31, 2018. For the next 39 years, he worked at the Federal Aviation Administration and Pearl Harbor, Naval Shipyard retiring in 2002 after proudly working 50 years for the United Stated Federal Government. Val was very talented and creative. He enjoyed painting tapa ceramics, gardening, carpentry and spoiling his family. Val is survived by his wife, Kathryn (Kathy) Rowe, daughter, Kelley Ann Chun (Andy), son, Anthony; and grandchildren Lucas and Gabrielle Chun. He is predeceased by brothers, Samuel (Kainoa) and Peter Kauhane. And survived by sister, Grace Knox, brothers John (Sonny), James (Jimmy), and Joseph (Puna) Balaz as well as sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. The legacies he leaves us will carry on in our hearts and to those after us. Val will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Val’s life will be celebrated on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at St. Ann’s Church in Kaneohe. Visitation is at 9:00 a.m., with Service at 10:30, and Mass at 11:00. Aloha Attire. |
