BERTHA MEE YING CHU Bertha Mee Ying Chu passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, April 20, 2018. After recently celebrating her 94th birthday, Bertha suffered a series of strokes, and was briefly hospitalized before returning home to the loving care of her family in her final days. Bertha was born to Fook and Nalice (Chow) Mun on April 2, 1924 and was the oldest of seven; brothers Kenneth, Lawrence (deceased), Melvin (deceased), Milton, and sisters Jeannette and Eleanor. Bertha graduated from McKinley High School. She met her husband George Chu (deceased) and they married in 1946. George and Bertha had four children – daughter Georgiana (deceased), sons Sanford (wife Laureen), Lester (wife Roanne), and Walton (wife Nannette), five grandchildren and four great- grandchildren. George and Bertha started, owned and operated GBC Boxes and Packaging. Bertha was a loving and supportive sister, wife, mother and grandmother. Throughout her life, Bertha showed great spunk, and a sly and witty sense of humor. She was a terrific cook who would create delicious multi-course Chinese meals on short notice. She especially loved to play the slot machines in Las Vegas. And she displayed a fantastic sense of style and fashion with a special love for bright shades of the color red. We will miss her greatly.
