THERESE TYLER

It is with deep sadness that we announce the loss of Therese Tyler, who passed on March 26, 2025, at the age of 74, after fighting a brave battle with cancer.

Therese was born Therese Marie Purcell on February 26, 1951 in Goodrich, Michigan. Therese was a loving and devoted wife to her husband of many years, Robert Tyler, with whom she built a beautiful life and business in Honolulu, Hawaii. Together, they created a lasting legacy, both in their work and in the home they shared.

She was the proud mother of Travis Tyler, whom she supported wholeheartedly throughout his life. She was an incredible mother who not only nurtured Travis with love and guidance, but also shared a passion for sports, especially the Lakers! She coached his youth soccer and basketball teams and traveled to the mainland for his baseball and football games growing up. Therese rarely, if ever, missed one of Travis’s games.

Her role as a grandmother brought her immense joy. Adriana and Zoey, her beloved granddaughters, were showered with love and kindness. Whether making Easter baskets, crafting Valentine’s Day cards, or adding thoughtful touches to every holiday, she made each celebration magical. Halloween was a particular favorite, and her epic parties became a cherished tradition for family and friends alike.

An active and energetic soul, she loved working out—attending Zumba, Tae Bo, aerobics, and weight lifting classes regularly. She also taught both aerobics and water aerobics in Hawaii Kai, where she built a close-knit group of friends who celebrated birthdays, anniversaries, and the everyday joys of life together.

Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Her sense of humor and fun-loving nature brought laughter to every room she entered. A natural hostess, her home radiated warmth and hospitality. With a gift for design and a passion for home economics— studied at Michigan State and Eastern Michigan Universities—she brought creativity and care into everything she touched.

Therese is survived by her loving husband, Robert Tyler; her son, Travis Tyler; daughter-in-law, Isabel Tyler; and granddaughters, Adriana and Zoey. She will also be dearly missed by her mother, Germaine Purcell; sisters Nicolette Harper, Colleen Purcell, Sara Purcell, and Heidi Purcell; as well as her many nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends.

Celebrations of life will be held at a later date in Honolulu and Ann Arbor.
