STEVEN TANEY KALANI BURKE SR. Steven Taney Kalani Burke, Sr. passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on October 30, 2024. He was born on July 22, 1941 in Honolulu to Carmen and Eugene Burke (deceased). He was the older sibling to brother Kini (deceased) and sister Nalani and younger half brother to Cyril Kahale (deceased). Steven graduated from Kamehameha School for Boys in 1959. He received a four year football scholarship and attended college in Colorado. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Chaminade University. Steven joined the Honolulu Police Department in 1961 and retired in 1991. While with HPD, he was a member of the Metro Squad, Crime Prevention Unit, Juvenile Crime Prevention Division and Sergeant at the Pearl City Police Station. He was a strong supporter of the State of Hawaii Organization of Police Officers (SHOPO) where he was elected Vice President, President, and later Director at Large. Exercising was an important part of his life even after retirement and he loved lifting weights at the Pearl City Police station with his colleagues. Steven is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Haina Burke, son, Steven T.K. Burke, Jr., two daughters, Patricia Burke Krakovic, Stacie Maile Burke, six grand- children and five great-grand- children. Private service will be at a later date.
