GEORGE AH YEW HIU

George "Sonny" Hiu, 91, of Honolulu, Hawaii, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2025, at the Hi’olani Care Center at Kahala Nui surrounded by loved ones. George was born on August 28,1933, in Honolulu and was the oldest of three sons to George and Helen Lum Hiu. He attended St. Louis High School and graduated in 1951. After graduation, George proudly served his country as an Air Force veteran during the Korean War as a medical specialist, a period that shaped much of his early years. Following his military service, he attended the University of Hawaii graduating with a degree in civil engineering. His dedication to his field was evident by working nearly 40 years at the Honolulu Board of Water Supply retiring as head of the Long-Range Planning Branch. He then briefly worked at Castle and Cooke and ultimately ended his longstanding career at the Estate of James Campbell as Vice President of Planning and Engineering after 13 years. Beyond his professional achievements, George was a devoted family man, and his unwavering love, support and guidance were the cornerstone of his family. George is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Gail, and their two children, Michael and his wife Chintana and daughter Sydney and her husband Chris Bisho, grandchildren Katherine and Shawna Hiu and Kahi and Carli Bisho. Also surviving are brothers, Dennis and Patrick Hiu. Inurnment service will be held on February 28, 2025, at 8:30am at the National Memorial Center of the Pacific at Punchbowl.
