AURORA ANGELES (AVECILLA) FRUEHLING (November 3, 1934-July 1, 2017) Aurora Angeles (Avecilla) Fruehling of Honolulu passed away peacefully at age 82 on July 1, 2017, at The Queens Medical Center of Honolulu. Present were her husband, Royal, her daughter, Christine, and two of her cousins Toni Torres and Lita Leonhardt. Her son, Everett, arrived the next day. She is survived by her immediate family of her husband, her son, her daughter, three grandchildren, and her brother, Alfonso Avecilla, of San Jose, CA. Born in Honolulu, she attended Kapalama, Stevenson, and Roosevelt Schools, and graduated from The American School in Manila. She attended the University of the Philippines and graduated from the University of Hawai’i. She completed her M.A. Degree in theater and drama at Northwestern University where she met her husband, Royal. Royal joined her when she returned to Hawai’l in 1959. They married there in 1960, and were married for 57 years. Aurora identified herself as a Community Volunteer, and was a member/officer in numerous City/County, State and National organizations and boards, especially those advocating for a greater emphasis on the arts and arts education in schools; patient protection in hospital research; and the empowerment of women worldwide. She regularly participated as a member of the choir of the First Presbyterian Church of Honolulu at Ko’olau. A "Celebration of Life" celebration will be held Saturday morning from 9:00 AM -1:00 PM on October 28, 2017, at the Ballroom/Sanctuary of The First Presbyterian Church of Honolulu at Ko’olau, 45-550 Kionaole Road, Kaneohe, Oahu. A "Meet and Greet" with light refreshments will follow the Program Family requests no flowers or monetary gifts; donations "in memory of Aurora A. Fruehling" may be made through the University of Hawai’i Foundation for the Royal T. and Aurora A. Fruehling Fellowship Graduate Study College of Education. The Inurnment Service for the placing of the ashes will be private.
