VIOLET EDNA SOARES Violet Edna Soares, 91 passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 23, 2017 at the "Tender Loving Care" home in Honolulu, Hawaii. She was born on July 13, 1926 in Hilo, Hawaii and was the 15th of 16 children of Sophie (Silva) Soares of Kohala, Hawaii and Manuel P. Soares, Sr. of the Azores, Portugal. Violet is survived by her younger brother William P. Soares (Rosalie) of Phoenix, Arizona and sister-inlaw Tokiko Soares of Honolulu, Hawaii and numerous nieces, nephews and grand nieces and grand nephews. At the age of 8, Violet moved to Honolulu with her father and 5 siblings to live with her older brother, David P. Soares and his family where she attended Lunalilo Elementary and Washington Intermediate Schools. While still a teen, Violet carved out a career for herself in the food service industry by quickly adapting to various jobs in the kitchens of Joe Fat’s, M’s Coffee Tavern and M’s Ranch House. Of her achievements, Violet was most proud of being an employee of The Pacific Club for more than 50 years where she thoroughly enjoyed working for Chef Eric Leterc and being part of his Tiara Terrace team. Violet often spoke affectionately of the members and their children, and their childrens’ childrens, and of the special friendship she shared with them. A loving, caring and generous person, Violet always looked forward to and enjoyed going out to dinner with her grand nephews and part time care givers Edward and Peter Simmons who along with the rest of her extended family will miss her dearly. A graveside service for Violet will be held on Wednesday, August 30th, 2017 form 10:30 am to 11:00 am at Diamond Head Memorial Park followed by a luncheon in her honor.
