JOSEPH K.F. LAU

1945 – 2025

On Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025, at the age of 79, Joseph K. F. Lau of Kaneohe departed his earthly existence to continue his soul’s journey in the spirit realm.

Born of John Lun and Edith Lee Lau, Joseph "Jojo" "Joe" Lau spent his early years immersed in his cultural heritage – Chinese language at Mun Lun School, training with prominent martial artists/sifu and as a member of local Chinese societies. His last sifu was Tai Chi Chuan Master Andrew Lum.

He was a proud Class of 1963 Iolani graduate and received a business degree in accounting and computer programing from the UH School of Commerce. Joe worked as Sales Manager, alongside his mother Edith, at the family-owned business CITY ART WORKS located in downtown Honolulu.

In 1987 he co-founded, and was the inaugural President of, the Hawaii Photographic Society. This non-profit organization provided a learning and networking community, for photo hobbiests, enthusiasts, amateurs and professionals, in which to gather, learn, share, teach, exhibit and enjoy all aspects of photography. Joe’s other interests included breeding, cultivating and growing a variety of orchids. His memberships in the Manoa Orchid and Windward Orchid Societies gave him access to commercial and home growers, orchid stock and knowledge related to orchids.

Joseph is predeceased by his parents John and Edith Lau, by his siblings Lily (Jeff) Lee, David (Janice) Lau, and Evelyn Lau (ex. James) Bell. He is survived by his wife Jo Ann K. S. Lau, their children Kristoffer, Jade, Justin and Keene Lau and fur-babies Ollie and Felix.

He is also survived by ex-wife Charlene Lau, their children Nathan (Annie) Lau, Jolene Lau and Shari (Reyn) Yoshinaga; grandchildren Nalene Bui, Daniel Lau and Esther Lau; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
