ROY GARY OHYE Roy Ohye, born November 6, 1943 in Honolulu, passed away on March 30, 2025. Roy retired as an administrator for the Department of Health after 38 years of service. In his role as the STD Manager for the Hawaii STD/HIV Prevention Program, he coordinated nationwide to advocate for the education and prevention of the spread of STD’s. He was honored as a founding member of the National Coalition of STD Directors and was a member of the Region IX Infertility Prevention Project Advisory Committee since its inception in 1994. Roy also liaised with the CDC and other organizations during the escalation of HIV/AIDS to promote public health initiatives to increase awareness, reduce stigma, and promote safe behaviors to prevent HIV transmission. During his well-deserved retirement, Roy enjoyed traveling, ballroom dancing, spending time with his friends and watching lots of t.v. Roy was loved and will be dearly missed by his wife, Karen Nakagawa; his stepdaughter, Lynn; his family and many friends. Visitation at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 5, 2025 at Hosoi Garden Mortuary. Service begins at 2:30 p.m.
