ASAE (YAMAGUCHI) NAKANO
May 17, 1936 – Jan. 3, 2025

Asae Nakano, 88, of Aiea, Hawaii, passed away on January 3, 2025. She was born on March 17, 1936, in Captain Cook (Kona), Hawaii, with her documented birth date as May 17, 1936.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Thomas Nakano; sons Bruce (Marylou), Norman (Christy), Calvin (Noi), and Sterling (Joanne); 7 grandchildren and 5 great- grandchildren. Sisters Lorraine Asakura and Sue (Reynold) Nakano. Preceded in death by her parents, Tatsuji and Tsuki Yamaguchi; brothers Akira, Tsutomu, and Tsugio; and sisters Itsuko Thomas and Tsutae Kuwabara.

A proud Konawaena “Wildcats” graduate (’54), Asae dedicated her career to serving others as a cafeteria manager with the State of Hawaii’s DOE. She found joy in bringing people together, sharing love and laughter with family and friends. She especially cherished cooking with her grandchildren, teaching them the art of making manju and mochi for special occasions.

Asae was a true social butterfly— kind, caring, and full of life. She loved staying connected with family and friends, whether through gatherings in Hawaii or trips to Las Vegas. Alongside her loving husband, Thomas, she traveled across the country and to Japan, creating cherished memories along the way.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at Mililani Memorial Park, Mauka Chapel. Visitation will begin at 5:00 PM, with a service to follow at 5:45 PM.

Asae’s warmth, generosity, and vibrant spirit will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
