Rand Berkline departed his earthly constraints in the evening of February 3, 2025, from the serenity of his Kahaluu home, surrounded by those who loved him dearly. He was "Daddy O" to Daniel and "Daddy Bear" to Jessica, "Papa" to Liam and Rafael (Jessica) and Eli and Max (Daniel and Jenn Hardin). He was married to Marion for 53 years. Born in Los Angeles on November 1, 1947, to Raymond and Helen, he was brother to Kelly and Lee Ann (all deceased). Rand served in the Navy from 1969-73. He did a tour in Vietnam and was rewarded with Hawaii as his next duty station. He knew when he landed in 1970 that he would never leave the islands. He was an Early Childhood Educator at The Early School, managed the Child Development Center at Subase HI and most notably was a Clinical Psychologist in private practice from 1998-2019. Rand was a tai chi master, teaching and studying the art for over 50 years. Tai chi was a part of who he was and how he lived and breathed. He volunteered his skills and time with the Red Cross, providing mental health services post Iniki, "9-11" and the Oregon Wildfires. Rand’s love of poker was legendary. The Poker Palace will never be the same without his spirit and pure love of the game. He was a good man who lived a storied life. We miss him immensely and hope he’s met up with dear ones who have gone before him. Most of all, we hope he finds a poker ohana to duplicate the one he had for 42 years. A myriad of friends and family were with us to ease his final journey. There are too many to list, but you know who you are and you will forever be in our hearts.
