JANICE ALEXANDER POLLOCK

Jan Pollock of Kaneohe passed away on July 10, 2024, at the age of 82. She was born on December 18, 1941, to Edward K. and Daisy C. Alexander and grew up in Haleiwa. She graduated from St. Andrews Priory in 1959 and continued on to earn a master’s in English from the University of Hawaii. While there she met and married James "Jim" V. Pollock (predeceased) in 1961.

Jan and Jim settled in Kaneohe where they raised their three children. Jan was very active in their education and extracurricular activities. Once they were grown, she returned to the classroom as a substitute teacher.

Jan enjoyed playing tennis and was a long-time member of the KYC Tennis Fleet. She was also an avid jogger and could regularly be seen running around Kaneohe. She delighted in spending time with her grandchildren, cooking and entertaining family and friends, working in her garden, dancing hula, studying Hawaiian, and tackling the NY Times Sunday Crossword Puzzle every week.

Jan is survived by her daughters Laurie Thornley and Julie Mancuso; son James "Kimo" Pollock; grandchildren Megan, Conner, and Mandy Mancuso; brother Edward C. Alexander; and sister Joyce deHay.

A prolific reader, Jan was a lifelong patron of the Kaneohe Library. Those wishing to honor her memory can do so by making a donation to the Friends of the Library of Hawaii Makana Akamai Program (https://friendsofthelibraryofhawaii.org/makana-akamai/aii.org).

A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
