Was a beloved Grammy, Mother and Wife during her incredible 103 years of life. She passed away on the morning of February 28,2024 in the comfort of her home. Her daughter Iris and granddog Peyton were with her as she reached the end of her fulfilling life with us and quietly entered eternal rest. She was born on March 24,1920 in Kekaha, Kauai, one of 7 children of the Shiroma family. For as long as we can remember, our parents, Yukichi and Yoshino were dedicated members of the Oroku Aza Jin Club. In 2022 the club awarded her 2022 Uchinanchu of the Year. Her family celebrated this momentous occasion and marveled as she eagerly stood up to Kachashi at the age of 102. Yoshino exemplified a continuous commitment to perpetuate and share the Okinawan culture and heritage. Yoshino enjoyed taking lessons in martial arts, dancing and singing. Our parents loved to perform at the annual Shinnen-Enkai celebration. Yoshino continued these activities after our dad’s passing which attributed to her healthy lifestyle both physically and mentally. She was also very independent and would walk or ride the bus to all of her activities. One day, the bus driver stopped her from entering the bus because she was carrying a sword that she used for her martial arts class. Despite any challenges, she pressed on, unwavering, continuing her daily outings and activities well into her late 90s. Yoshino will always be remembered for her kindness, gentle words, and infectious smile. She always reminded her grandchildren to "Try hard, Study hard and Be happy." Yoshino is survived by her children, Linda K. Teruya (Darrell Asato), Iris M. Teruya, Dexter Y. Teruya (Lori); beloved grammy to Rayne-Michael Asato, Kristen-Marie Asato, Kelsie-Ann Mita, Dr. Alyssa-Rae Mita (fiancé Josh Burke), Jayce (Marisa) Teruya, Micah (Christina) Teruya, Lindsay Teruya, great-grandson, Graysen Teruya and 9 furry granddogs. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members. She was predeceased by her husband, Yukichi, granddaughter, Shannen-Leigh Namie Asato and her 6 siblings as well as other beloved family. The Teruya family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the following individuals: Our mom’s constant companions and caregivers, Helen Corpuz and Lanie Dela Cruz for your loving kindness, patience and tender care shown to our mom for the past 7 yrs. She appreciated and loved you both dearly. Dr. Izumi Kobashigawa and staff, a warm and caring primary physician who provided our mom with superb medical care and support. She was blessed to have you as her doctor. The wonderful staff at Island Hospice Care for your kindness and compassion shown towards my mom during her transition and her final journey. Through every interaction with our family, you comforted us with your presence and attentiveness as you also prepared us for our final good-byes to our mom and grammy.
