LOUIS JOHN DARNELL COL Louis John Darnell was born in Italy in 1944 and passed away from cancer at home in May in Kaneohe. He grew up in a military family and went to high school in Lakewood, Washington at Clover Park High. He joined the Army in 1966 and attended Officer Candidate School. While serving in the Army he fought in Viet Nam and got his Bachelor’s Degree at the University of Washington and his Master’s at Oklahoma State. After working in the Pentagon he was awarded the Legion of Merit as a Major, he was chosen to be the Aide De Camp to General Richardson, commanded an Armor Battalion in Germany, attended the Army War College and retired after serving 28 years. He then created a communications company, ComTel, with his son, Matthew, retired from that and spent many years as an Executive Coach and mentor with the Worldwide Vistage Organization. He was married to Donlei Peni Sedgwick for 57 years and had 3 children: Linda Giles (Kelvin Giles), Matthew (Cindy Reidt), and Louis Jr, (Skye Goo). He leaves 6 wonderful grandchildren. He also has a half-sister, Vincenza Zema, a nephew and two nieces in Italy and many relatives in Slovenia. There will be a Celebration of Life Open House at the home of Matthew and Cindy Darnell on Saturday, July 15, from 2 to 6 and a Military Service at the Kaneohe Veterans Cemetery on Friday, July 21, at 11:00.
