ROGER HARUO MIYASHIRO Roger Miyashiro passed away in Westminster, California, April 13th, 2023. He was the youngest child of Gyusho and Ushi Miyashiro of Hanapepe, Kauai. Born on April 16th, 1932, he grew up on Kauai, graduating from Waimea High School in 1951, and started college in San Diego, transferring to New Mexico State College. Before graduating, he served in the US army, stationed in Korea, 3rd Army, 58th Field Artillery Battalion. After completing his degree, he married Gloria Ordonez with whom he had two sons and later divorced. He was a teacher and counselor in the San Dieguito High School district in San Diego County until his retirement in 1987. He returned to Hawaii as a summer student in 1968, and ten years later for a year as a counselor at Lahainaluna High School, Maui. After retirement he married Nancy Haselhoff in New Zealand. After her death he moved to Orange County to be near his grandchildren. Roger was preceded in death by his siblings: Sue Shizue Miyashiro Gerrish of San Diego, Morris Morimichi Miyashiro of Honolulu, and Nancy Anne Sakiko Miyashiro Ichinaga of Los Angeles. He is survived by his sons Rand of Redwood City, and Ross of Westminster, CA and grandchildren Julie and Jacob. A private memorial was held in June.
