ROBERT BERKELEY FRASER


Robert “Bob” Fraser, 92, beloved father, partner/husband, brother, son, and Unitarian minister, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2023, in Waipahu, Hawaii, after a long struggle with Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s. He was born in Butte, Montana, on October 24, 1930, and lived in Honolulu for 38 years. He served as minister at the First Unitarian Church of Honolulu (1985-1995), the Unitarian Church of Rockville, Maryland (1977-1985), and the Unitarian Church of San Mateo, California (1969-1977), and was known for his compassionate and thought-provoking sermons and counseling. After retiring, he performed hundreds of weddings, memorial services and Celebration of Life services across Oahu for visitors and residents alike, as part of his ministerial service.
Bob was interested in everyone and everything and was a passionate listener and debater. A lifelong student of philosophy, religion, and politics, he received his M.A. in Philosophy from Columbia University and his M.Div. from Starr King School for the Ministry. Before joining the ministry he served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany; was a boxer and Golden Gloves champion; was an award-winning, Olympic-class equestrian and jumper; and a cattle rancher in Montana. He also built, renovated, and expanded homes for his families, in Montana, California, and Hawaii.
Bob is survived by and will be profoundly missed by his 6 children: Harbour Fraser Hodder, Robert “Rob” Berkeley Fraser, Philip Ramon Fraser, Maria Carmen Fraser, Andrea Rose Fraser, and Zachary Graham Fraser; their spouses: Alan Hodder, Kasia Fraser, and Andy Stewart; 3 grandchildren: Charles Miller and wife
Hannah Shr Miller, Luis Fraser, and Rosa Taylor; 2 great grandchildren, Gloria and Evie Miller; his first wife, Carmen de Monteflores, second wife, Inge Fraser, third wife, Catherine Graham, and his final partner of 22 years, Beverly Anderson Lahr.
Bob is also survived by his oldest sister, Inez Sue “Susie” Kurth, and 6 nieces and nephews and their children. He was predeceased by his father, Robert Berkeley Fraser; his mother, Rosabel Walter
Fraser; his sisters Antoinette “Toni” Fraser Rosell and Carol R. Fraser, and their spouses.

Bob’s Celebration of Life is Friday, July 14, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., First Unitarian Church of Honolulu, 2500 Pali Hwy, Honolulu. Please make donations to the charity of your choice.
