JANE SAEKO KOHATSU IKEDA

Jane Saeko Ikeda, 94, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2023 in Honolulu. The 7th out of 10 children, she was born on July 13, 1928 to Tara and Kamado Kohatsu in Paia, Maui. The family lived in Kaheka plantation camp, in a home filled with stories, laughter, and Okinawan songs and dancing.

She is survived by son, Jaime; daughter, Naomi (Dominic) Chow; grandchildren, Aya Ikeda and Carlton Chow; sister, Toshie Nako; many nieces, nephews, relatives; and grandpuppy, Betty. Predeceased by husband, Kiyoshi, and son, John.

Jane Saeko was a proud graduate of UH Manoa (BA, MSW). A caring social worker who practiced in Chicago and Honolulu, she was deeply dedicated to children and families. She was an avid reader, loved all things Okinawan/ Uchinanchu, followed politics and legislation, enjoyed gardening, and cherished family, especially her grandchildren.

We thank the wonderful, caring staff and doctors at Kuakini Hale Pulama Mau ICF 5 for making Jane’s days brighter and more comfortable.

Celebration of life will be held on July 22, 2023 at the Church of the Crossroads in Honolulu at 1212 University Ave. Visitation begins at 10 a.m.; Service at 11 a.m.; Reception to follow. Aloha attire. Masks requested.
