VICTORIA KAM YUK CHUN FONG
Victoria Kam Yuk Chun was born September 19, 1929 and died on June 4, 2023 at the age of
93. She was the youngest and last surviving of the eight children of Entrepreneur Emma Kwock and Kim Chow Chun of Kim Chow Shoes, the founders of Chun Kim Chow, Ltd. and Emma Kwock Chun Corporation.
She was a graduate of Roosevelt High School and received a Bachelor’s and Master’s of Education from University of Michigan, and her Master’s of Special Education with Honors from University of Hawaii. While attending the University of Michigan, she met her soulmate and husband of 67 years, Judge Arthur Sung Kong Fong, who predeceased her on February 23, 2020. She was a teacher with the Department of Education.
She was an exceptional wife, mother, popo, and person. She was everyone’s best friend and supporter. She was very special, modest, humble, selfless, giving, with deep appreciation and gratitude to all whom she came across. She was the best mom possible, was loved by all. In 2020, she was recognized as the Chinese Model Mother of the Year.
She enjoyed reading, traveling, playing piano, walking, swimming, attending exercise classes. She was an avid golfer and member of the Waialae Country Club and was also an avid fan of UH Football and Basketball, the Hawaii Opera Theater, and Honolulu Community Theater which she regularly attended for over 60 years.
She was a devout Catholic and had an audience with Pope Benedict. She passed away peacefully shortly after receiving the final last rites blessings which were administered to her in the presence of her loving family.
She will be deeply missed by the many people she touched during her remarkable and outstanding life. Her proudest achievement is her wonderful close-knit family.
She is survived by her 7 children WENDY FONG TSOU (Richard); PETER C.K. FONG; VALERIE W.H. CHANG (Glenn); ANDREW C.O. FONG (Jenifer); CAROLYN FONG CHANG
(Hubert); MARY FONG NAKAMOTO (Dean); DANIEL C.H. FONG (Corrie); 15 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren.
