JEAN HARUE NISHI

Our Nishi Ohana is heartbroken to share the news of the passing of our beloved mom, grandma and wife; Jean Harue Nishi on April 8, 2023. Jean courageously confronted her sudden ALS illness (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) with a fierce determination to try and beat insurmountable odds, but she sadly succumbed to ALS complications.

Jean loved her tenure at Nanakuli High and Middle School where she passionately taught various subjects for over 38 years. In her last position as Student Activities Coordinator, Jean organized countless events involving the Nanakuli High School and the Leeward community. She had a special place in her heart for the "West Side". Jean retired in 2018 to take care of her aging parents. God’s Angel on Earth, Jean will forever be remembered for her outgoing spirit, engaging personality and unconditional love and kindness to anyone that she befriended.

As much as she enjoyed her years in education, Jean was so proud to have raised her incredible and beloved children, Kyle, Kurt, and Kori. Throughout their formative years, Jean loved spending time in their school activities, various sports teams, and various other extracurricular activities in the Aiea Community.

Although her three grandchildren lived on the mainland, she treasured the time spent in watching them grow up and do well in school and extracurricular activities.

She is survived by her husband; Tom; sons Kyle, Kurt (Brittany) daughter Kori (jon) and grandchildren Keido, Kamden and Kenji. Sisters; Audrey, Irene, Lynne and Lori. Jean is predeceased by her parents, Katsumi and Mary HIraki.

A Celebration of Jean’s life will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2023 at Nuuanu Memorial Park and Mortuary. Visitation at 10am with Service at 11:00am. Casual Aloha Attire. In lieu of floral tributes, please consider a donation to the ALS Association – Golden West Chapter – P.O. Box 11284, Honolulu, Hawaii 96828.
