Godfrey Ortiz, Sr. passed away on April 1, 2023 at the age of 81. He joined the Honolulu Police Department as a Cadet and then made it his career on August 1, 1960 and retired on August 31, 1985. The majority of his career was dedicated to being a 4th Watch Sergeant, a training Sergeant for Judo, and Tactical Driving. He was so loved by all of his peers. Godfrey was born and raised at Damon Tract. He is survived by his son, Godfrey Ortiz, Jr. and his children, Ashley Rae and Christian; by his daughter, Vivian Babette Tamayoshi and her children, Cheyenne and Kayla; and by his sisters, Estelle Green and Veronica Buck. Godfrey was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian Pono Ortiz, his brothers, Kenneth, Bobby, Claude, Gilbert, Gaylord and his sisters, Shirley and Olivia. Godfrey was a good and loving brother and he will be truly missed. Godfrey will be honored by the Honolulu Police Department at the beginning of the service for his years of dedication to the City and County of Honolulu. A Celebration of Life will be held on June 2, 2023 at the Valley of the Temples in Kaneohe. Family Visitation will be from 9:30-10:00 am, public viewing is from 10:00-10:30 am.
