OKASHIGE

81, passed away at her Kaimuki home on March 17, 2023. Jan was born in Honolulu, the middle daughter of Richard J. and Laura H. Okashige.

She attended Ali’iolani Elementary, R.L. Stevenson Intermediate and Roosevelt High School. Jan attained a degree in Psychology from the University of Hawaii. Her life’s work started on Maui for about 2 years for the State Department of Human Resources. She returned to Oahu to complete her Master’s degree in Social Work. She continued working for the Department of Human Resources and the Department of Education. The majority of her career was spent working for the State Department of Health in Mental Health and Medicare, and retired after 37 years of service to the community.

In retirement, Jan enjoyed traveling but her passion was golfing. Being a member of multiple golf clubs, her many travels included teeing up at courses across the USA and international destinations as well. According to Jan, her "claim to fame" was 4 holes-in-one!

She supported St. Mark’s Church in Kapahulu participating in fundraising and other events.

She cherished her many friends who were like family to her. Jan touched the lives and hearts of many and will be dearly missed.

Besides her parents, Jan was predeceased by older sister Eula J. Wiley, and is survived by sister Sidney E Okashige and cousins.

Services will be held on Monday, June 5, 2023, at Hosoi Garden Mortuary. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am followed by the service at 11:00 am. Refreshments and bentos will be available. Private inurnment will be at 1:15 pm at Oahu Cemetery. Please no monetary gifts. Mask is required.
