ALICE MARGARET BRODERICK

It is with profound sadness that we announce that Alice Margaret "Peggy" Broderick – beloved wife, devoted mother, doting grandmother and great-grand- mother, dear sister and a caregiver to so many in life – has ended her journey and is now in the light.

Peggy was born in Honolulu to Hugo and Kate Kortschak Dec 29th, 1939. She attended Punahou and later Manoa Elementary, Stevenson Intermediate and Roosevelt High School. She was a National Merit Scholar and a 4-year General Motors Scholarship winner. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa in 1961 from Pembroke University (now Brown) with a degree in International Relations and a minor in languages. She was an accomplished cellist and played in the Honolulu Symphony with her father. Peggy married Robert Broderick October 11, 1961 at St. Clement’s Church in Makiki.

In the mid-1970s, Peggy earned a Master’s in Public Health from the University of Hawaii, followed by a Master’s in Social Work. She worked at Catholic Charities for many years. She was a pioneering and courageous woman who started a business to provide caregivers for the elderly. Her company, Options for Elders, gave clients a chance to continue to live at home with qualified and attentive caregivers. Besides working full time Peggy also served as treasurer & clerk for Honolulu Friends Meeting.

She is survived by her loving husband Bob, children Nancy Morgan (Andrew), Catherine Connelly (Matthew), Sarah White (Brian), & Richard Broderick (Eveline), sisters Beppie Shapiro and Betsy Dew, 7 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday January 14, 2023 at St. Clement’s Episcopal Church, 1515 Wilder Avenue in Honolulu. Visitation at 2pm followed by services at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Elizabeth’s Episcopal Church, memo: Wallyhouse (720 N. King Street, Honolulu, HI 96817), or a charity of your choice.
