JOSEPH M. HERZOG, DVM
On April 13, 2020, a dark beautiful star crashed, pouring its light into ashes, through the transitive nightfall of diamonds. Joe died peacefully, on his own terms, at home in Kailua.
Survived by his wife Brenda Machosky (m.1995); mother Rose Marie Farthing of Kankakee, IL; father Ernest Herzog and step-mother Terry of Romeoville, IL; brother Tom Herzog (Jeff Kauffman, sons, Ben and Kris) of Long Beach, CA. Predeceased by grandparents Stella and Ray King, Ernest and Florence Herzog and step-father Howard Farthing.
Joe graduated from Stanford (’83) and University of Wisconsin Veterinary School (’97). With a love for all creatures great and small, Dr. Joe comforted animals in California and Hawai`i. He helped found the Windward Community College Veterinary Technician Program, worked with the Honu Conservation program at Sea Life Park, and served on the Hawai`i Veterinary Medical Association Board.
Since June 4, 1961, all the years combine, they melt into a dream. Joe sought adventure everywhere, with everyone, and always strove to do it all. He loved traveling the world, hiking, diving, singing, playing music, cycling, and being a SF Giants fan.
Let there be songs to fill the air.
