KIYOKO KOYANAGI

On October 14, 2021, Koko, as she was affectionately called, peacefully slipped away at age 94 to "dwell in the house of the Lord forever." The daughter of Otogoro and Kofusa Iwamoto, Koko graduated from McKinley High School in 1945. She then worked in her family’s restaurant and Ohta Candy Store before going to Japan for a position with the U.S. government. Care for her elderly parents brought her back to Hawaii, where she was employed by two doctors, and eventually retired from HMSA after 26 years of dedicated service.

Her passions included worldwide travel with her husband, Bill – especially to their favorite city, Las Vegas, reading, watching Korean dramas, crocheting, quilting and sewing blankets, cheering on the UH football and volleyball teams and hosting many family parties.

Her deep Christian faith and the care and compassion given by Dr. Joey Kohatsu and the staff of 15 Craigside, Arcadia and Bristol Hospice sustained her during her lengthy illness. Mahalo to all. Koko embodied love and generosity, and will be truly missed by her extended family and friends.

Koko was predeceased by Bill and is survived by her son, Wynn; granddaughter, Brytnie; and sisters, Alma Ikeda and Julia Obatake. A private service was held. In lieu of flowers or gifts, those who wish to honor her may make donations to a charity of their choice.
