92, passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 1, 2021 at her retirement residence.

Eleanor was born in Honolulu to Tem Fat and Lin Kyau Chee Chong on June 30, 1929. The eldest of four children, she was always called "Sis" by her family.

After graduating from Kaimuki High School, she received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Hawaii and master’s degree from the University of Illinois. Eleanor always was able to turn her love of reading and books into a rewarding career. In 1952, she joined the University of Hawaii Library as a cataloger, and in 1955, Eleanor became head of Government Documents, a position she held for more than 25 years at Sinclair Library. Until the early 1980s, she was also head of the Hawaiian and Pacific Collections and Archives that contributed to her deep interest in Hawaiian culture and quilting.

Introduced by friends, she married Henry W.H. Au on June 3, 1976 at the Candlelight Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas. Together for 42 wonderful years, Eleanor and Henry shared a love of travel. Among their favorite destinations were San Francisco and Las Vegas.

She was preceded in death by her husband Henry W.H. Au; parents Tem Fat Chong and Lin Kyau Chee Chong; and sister Melicent Ching.

She is survived by her stepfamily: daughter Sandra Au Fong (Marvin); grandsons Nathan Fong (Jeong) and Timothy Fong; and great-grandson Aden; brother Richard Chong; sister Carolyn Lee; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Private services were held.
