A Life Well Lived and Well Loved.
Neal, age 68, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2020. He is pre-deceased by his parents, Edward and Florence Fujimori. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Lynette and daughter Chelsea Omaye-Backman (Keane); and siblings, Sharon Lieberman (Walter), Alan Fujimori (Diana), Ann Fuller (Frank) and a large extended family. Neal is now re-united with his Maltese buddy, Sigmund Freud (Siggy).
Neal attended Kalani High School and received his Bachelors in Horticultural Science at UH Manoa. Starting at Kawahara Nursery and Landscaping Company and then The Plant Place in Waimanalo, Neal eventually became the Landscape Manager at Hilton Hawaiian Village and Beach Resort. He worked there for the past 30 years and was recently named manager of the quarter. Neal was close to and especially proud of his crew at the Hilton. As an integral part of the Hilton Ohana, Neal was responsible for the impressive landscaped grounds, and also the man behind the beautiful Xmas displays at the hotel and the award winning floats for Aloha Week and The Honolulu Festival.
Neal’s passion was golf. He accomplished two hole-in-ones, in 2007 and in 2015. He was also a master oama fisherman and enjoyed karaoke. His other talents included making the most amazing prime rib roast at New Year’s for both sides of the family and being able to fix anything, which he attributed to his Eagle Scout days in troop 10. Neal’s generous and kind spirit, his strong and proud energy, and his boisterous laughter and zest for life will forever remain with us.
Much gratitude goes to all of Neal’s doctors and staff at Straub, the Renal Center of Hawaii-Beretania, Dr. Noah Solomon, and a special thank you to Dr. Ian Okazaki. Private services were held.
