BURIAL NOTICE
Notice is hereby given that a Burial Treatment Plan (BTP) has been prepared for human skeletal remains, previously encountered on a parcel located at Palauea ahupua’a, Honua’ula moku, Makawao District, Island of Maui, further identified by TMK: (II) 2-1-011:015.
In 2001, Archeological Services of Hawaii completed an inventory survey, including trenching. Approximately 25% of an adult individual was recovered during the investigation effort, in a previously disturbed context. The proximity of the skeletal remains was within the limits of the receding shoreline.
Mr. Erik M. Fredericksen of Xamanek Researches LLC assisted in the preparation of the BTP. In consultation with the Maui Burial Specialist of the State Historic Preservation Division, recognized cultural descendants of the Makena area and the Maui/Lanai Island Burial Council, it was determined that the remains will be respectfully relocated onsite, approximately 50-feet mauka of the existing shoreline.
