JOHN PHILIP SOUZA, SR.
John "JP" Philip "Pilipo" Souza, Sr., beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, and Friend, passed away on February 12, 2020. He was 82 years old. Born August 23, 1937 on Oahu, Hawaii, to Anthony and Priscilla Sousa. He is the second of their 4 children. He attended Roosevelt High School, class of 1956, and then served in the U.S. Army.
“JP” entered the Honolulu Fire Department on February 1, 1961, and served 25 years and 2 months. As a Fire Captain, his last Station was at Kailua’s Ladder 18 and he served many great years with the Honolulu Fire Prevention Bureau. After retiring from HFD, he enjoyed working with First Insurance, Safety Engineering, for 10 years.
“Pilipo”, with fervent Love for God and Hawaii, is a Hawaiian National and lived his life’s passion everyday. Pre-deceased by his daughter, Kanoe Rodrigues, grandson, David “DJ” Moffett, Jr., brother, James “Jimmy” Sousa; and son-in-law, Louie Rodrigues. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Leota Alicia Kahola Souza; children: Nathan (Tanya), G. Kamakani (Stephanie), Garla Souza-Roy (Corbett), Kahealani Dedona, John P. Jr.; 12 Grandchildren; 6 Great Grandchildren; brother, Michael G. Sousa, and sister, Toni Marie Hamilton.
Celebration of Life Service will be on Sunday,
March 15, 2020 at Bishop Memorial Chapel at Kamehameha Schools.
Public Visitation: 3:00 p.m.; Service: 4:00 p.m.
