YOICHI TAMURA Beloved Husband, Dad, Grandpa, Yoichi Tamura passed away peacefully at Kuakini Hospital, Honolulu on Sunday, Feb. 16, 2020 at the age of 95. He was born in Lawai, Kauai on June 4, 1924 to Yokichi and Yoshino Tamura, the first of 3 boys. They grew up in that plantation community and he graduated from Kauai HS in 1942. Shortly after, he enlisted in the US Army and was assigned to Company F of the 442nd Regiment, where he was sent to Italy to be part of their war efforts in WWII. He rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant before being discharged in 1945. Attending the U of Hawaii using the GI Bill, he earned his business degree and was hired by the U.S. Customs Service where he became a Supvy Import Specialist before retiring in 1980 after 30+ years. Shortly after returning from the war, he married the love of his life, Hilda and raised 2 children together in Honolulu. He also was big brother (Yoichi-Niisan) to both his brothers and Hilda’s many siblings, and their home was Family-Central while their siblings attended UH or worked in Honolulu. He divided his time between his family and golf to keep balanced, and loved to visit Las Vegas. He was also involved in Sheridan AC and the UH Rainbow Baseball Boosters. Yoichi is preceded in passing by his parents, Yokichi and Yoshino, brothers Satoru and Bunkichi, wife, Hilda (Shimomura), siblings in law Allen, Bunji, and Barbara. He is survived by his children, Keith, and Susan Hirokane (Gary), and his grandchildren, Shannon and Gavin; in laws Elsie Tamura, Nancy Miyamoto (Hank) and Dan Shimomura (Judy), 10 nieces and nephews.
