NOTICE OF CONSULTATION
SECTION 106 OF THE NATIONAL HISTORIC PRESERVATION ACT
OF 1966 AS AMENDED (2006)
Kalaheo Avenue and Kailua Road Intersection Improvements

Notice is hereby given that the City and County of Honolulu, Department
of Transportation Services (DTS), in cooperation with the Federal Highway
Administration and State of Hawaii Department of Transportation, proposes
road improvements to the intersection of South Kalaheo Avenue and Kailua
Road to function similar to a roundabout intersection. The work will occur
within road rights-of-way and within a portion of Tax Map Key (1) 4-3-011:
030 which is also known as the Kalapawai Triangle Park located in the center
of the intersection. Improvements will consist of new concrete sidewalks,
curbs, gutters, raised medians, curb ramps, driveways, speed table, asphalt
road pavement, signage with posts, striping, landscape planting, irrigation
and drainage infrastructure. In addition, the project will involve relocation of
above ground electric utilities, including new utility poles and fire hydrants.

Pursuant to Section 106 of the NHPA, Native Hawaiian Organizations and
Native Hawaiian descendants with ancestral, lineal or cultural ties to, cultural
and historical property knowledge of and/or concerns for, and cultural or
religious attachment to the proposed project area are requested to contact
DTS. Other individuals and organizations with demonstrated legal, economic
or historic preservation interest in the undertaking are asked to contact DTS
and share information you may have on historical and cultural sites that you
may have knowledge of within the proposed APE.
