Funeral Notices


Estelle Wrobell Murphy, beloved mother, grandmother, teacher and friend, died peacefully in her sleep at 11 a.m. on December 28, 2018, at her hillside Aina Hina home of 60 years. Born on April 15, 1918 in East Haven, CT, she was 100 years old, and had lived a fine, full life.
Mrs. Murphy was one of the early principals of Kahala Elementary School, where she gained the respect of faculty, parents and school officials for her innovative programs, particularly in reading, and for the gifted.
Her name means “star,” and
she was that – a bright, unfailing light, a reservoir of good will and cheer, who kept her enthusiasm for life until the end. There is no way to express how deeply she will be missed.
A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, January 24 at 2 pm at Unity Church of Hawaii, 3608 Diamond Head Circle. Wear spring colors and bring flowers from the garden. In lieu of flowers donations maybe made to the Institute of Human Services, 546 Kaaahi Street, Honolulu, HI 96817 ( Reception follows at her home.
