Cyril Lani Pahinui-Kahahawai, master slack-key guitarist and one of Hawaii’s most notable—and most beloved—musicians, died peacefully on Saturday November 17, 2018, at Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu.
The Celebration of Cyril’s Life will be held at the historic Kawaiaha’o Church on January 19, 2019 at 10:00 a.m., with formal services beginning at 12:00. Kawaiaha’o Church is located at 957 Punchbowl St., Honolulu, on the island of O’ahu. The public is invited to attend.
Musicians are encouraged to bring an instrument and join in kanikapila.
Cyril will receive full military honors at his January 19th services, in recognition of his service in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era. His urn eventually will be placed at Puowaina (Punchbowl), O’ahu in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.
