JANET PETERSON MILLER
93, passed away on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at the Kahala Nui Hi’olani Care Center surrounded by her family. The family wishes to thank Kahala Nui for the wonderful & loving care she received by the entire staff over the last almost eight years.
Jan was born April 19, 1925 in Iowa City, Iowa to Coral and Dr. Frank Peterson. She received a bachelor’s degree in three years from Mills College in 1946. She married Robert Wellington Miller II of Sioux City, IA on April 27, 1947. They left Iowa for a honeymoon in Puerto Rico where they remained for the next 30 years. They both were active in San Juan Union Church, P.R. Orchid Society, and Chaine des Rotisseurs. In 1977, she & her husband moved to Tulsa, OK where they lived for another 30 years being active in First United Methodist Church and her husband was on the faculty of Oral Roberts University dental school. She became a realtor-associate in Tulsa. In 1986, she and her husband founded Health Teams International, a medical and dental mission organization, serving as Treasurer and Secretary. Jan enjoyed cooking, football and travel. She left Tulsa in 2007, after her husband passed away and moved to Houston, TX area to be near two sons before moving to Honolulu in December 2010 to be near her eldest daughter and another son. Jan will be remembered for her love of God, family, intelligence, wit, grace and wonderful cooking!
Survivors include two daughters, Bambi D’Olier of Honolulu, HI; Terry Lynn Stewart of Marietta, GA; three sons: Robert Wellington Miller III and Stephen T. Miller of Houston, TX and Peter Franklin Miller of Kailua, HI; a sister, DeeJay Piersel of Leslie, MO; a brother, George Peterson of Naples, FL.; six grandsons and six great grandchildren.
