Age 79, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2018 after a long illness.
Helen was the beloved wife of Honolulu attorney Ed Bendet for 32 years and is survived by Ed and by her daughter, Selena Matelich of San Diego, and her sister, Thea Hutchinson of San Antonio.
Helen was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY and moved to Hawaii in 1973, where she lived ever since. Before her retirement, Helen was a legal secretary and worked with Ed in that capacity for 10 years prior to their marriage.
Helen had a deep love of animals and was a kind and caring mom to her dog, Rosie, and to her many feline companions over the years. Helen also loved flowers and other plants and before her illness spent many hours a day cultivating a beautiful bromeliad garden in the backyard of her Manoa home. She also loved skiing and enjoyed many happy weeks with Ed and friends at her favorite ski towns in the western U.S. and Canada.
Helen had a wonderful smile, an easy and infectious laugh, a sweet disposition, and a bright, fun-loving spirit. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered with much love and affection by her family and friends.
