JANET ELIZABETH SING

In Memory of Janet Elizabeth Sing, 80, who passed away at Kona Community Hospital in Kealakekua HI on July 28, 2018. Born Janet Elizabeth Ketchin in Dixon IL on October 15, 1937, Jan graduated from Rich East HS in Park Forest IL and attended Indiana University at Bloomington.

Jan’s career in marketing and sales brought her to Honolulu in 1969. She held numerous positions in the Sheraton Hotels Corporation including director of sales for the Princess Kalulani Hotel, and senior account executive for Sheraton Hotels of the Pacific. In 1975 she was named Sheraton’s Sales Person of the Year and in 1976 served as president of the Hawaii Chapter of the Hotel Sales Management Assn. Later she was director of sales for the Hawaiian Regent Hotel before being promoted to director of marketing and advertising at the Hawaiian Regent In 1981, and for the new Mauna Lani Resort Hotel that opened on the Big Island in 1982.

In 1981, Jan married the love of her life, Thomas Kam Sing and they resided in Honolulu until the mid- 1990s when they moved to Hawaii Island and built a home in Waimea. Predeceased by Tommy and grandson Benjamin Umialiloa Finley Stevens, Jan is survived by her son James Naeahuau Finley Stevens of Bull Head City AZ, granddaughter Beth Kelea Stevens of San Jose, CA, step granddaughters Alyssa Kahelewai and Kamaluhiakalani Eleneke of Oahu, and Loveal Sing and step grandson Kamakanaokeakua Eleneke, both of Maui.

Jan was a 49-year member of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution and in 2000 was named the Organizing Chapter Regent for the new Hawai’i Loa Chapter on Hawaii Island. She served the Hawaii State DAR and her chapter in several positions. She was named Honorary Chapter Regent for Life in 2009.

Jan was a long-time parishioner at St James Episcopal Church in Waimea. A Committal service and urn burial in the Memorial Garden was held on Saturday, September 29.
