LILY H. YAMASHIRO, Lily Hyun Yamashiro, 87, died in Honolulu on Sept. 4, 2018. Born in Wahiawa on July 28, 1931, she graduated from Leilehua and became a nurse, working in hospitals in Nuuanu, Kula, Hilo, LA and Michigan. In 1960, she married her former husband, Isao Yamashiro, and had 3 daughters. As an RN and hospital administrator and with a PhD in public health from UH, her unique credentials led to a successful career centered on health care and helping those in need. Until her retirement in 2003, she held key administrative positions at the State of Hawaii, Waikiki Health Center, St. Francis Medical Center and various advisory boards. Her legacy lives on through her beloved family and friends, shared love of Korean dramas and crossword puzzles, and through those in the community that benefited from the services and programs she helped establish or improve. Lily is survived by siblings Edmund C.H. Hyun (Jean), Rose H. Moore, Alice H. Kim (Thomas) and Thomas C.H. Hyun; daughter Kathleen D. Yamashiro and husband Todd Tanioka; daughter Lynn H. Yamashiro and husband Raymond Okamoto; granddaughters Sera R. Yomen and Rysa S. Tanioka; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers John and Henry Hyun and daughter Julie A. Yomen. Services will be held at Oahu Cemetery Chapel on Sept. 29, 2018; aloha attire; visitation 9 am; services at 10 am. Burial on Sept. 30, 10:30 am at Diamond Head Memorial Park for both Lily and daughter Julie.
