91, of Aiea, passed away on June 19, 2018. She was born in Tokyo, Japan.

Shizuko was once a very active member in the art community in Honolulu. She received her first art training at Joshi Gakushuin in Tokyo. She later took private lessons and received a teacher’s certificate in Sumi-e (Japanese Brush Painting), and Ikebana (Japanese Flower Arrangement). Shizuko arrived in Hawaii with her family in 1966. She continued her art training in general art, designing, and cartooning through a home correspondence course with the Art Instruction Schools (AIS) of Minneapolis. After graduating from AIS, she specialized in oil, watercolor, and gouache. By combining the delicate oriental touch with modern Western technique, she developed a unique style of illustration.

Shizuko was a life and signature member of the Hawaii Watercolor Society (HWS), Association of Hawaii Artists (AHA), and the Honolulu Academy of Arts. Since 1977, she participated in numerous juried art shows sponsored by HWS, AHA, Japanese Chamber of Commerce of Honolulu, and Dell Bello Gallery of Toronto, Canada. She received many awards including AIS first and second place award, Bank of Hawaii Award, and Artists of Hawaii Award. Her solo and group shows here held in various galleries in Hawaii and on the Ginza in Tokyo, Japan. Her paintings are displayed at various institutions.

Shizuko Mansho is preceded in death by husband, Mitsuo. Survived by son Gary (Carlina), daughter, Irene Shaneff (Carl) and 2 grandchildren, Jason Chatterley (Michele) and Ryan Chatterley (Christine).
