Ruth Ann Weiss Ruth Ann Weiss, longtime resident of Honolulu, passed away on April 26, 2018. Ruth Ann was born on January 11, 1930 in Providence, Rhode Island. She was the seventh child of Veronica (O’Hare) and William Thorpe. Ruth Ann spent childhood summers on "Thorpe Point" in East Barrington, R.I. which nurtured a love of the sea that prompted her decision to move her family to Honolulu in 1966. Ruth Ann earned her B.S. and R.N. from Mount St Mary College, in Hooksett, New Hampshire in 1951. In a career that spanned forty years, she taught, supervised and inspired excellence in nursing. During her twenty-two years at Straub Hospital, she worked as an Emergency Room nurse and then as the nursing supervisor. Ruth Ann is survived by her children, Mary Lynn Weiss of Richmond Virginia, Mark Weiss and Michael Weiss of Honolulu, her sister, Patricia Wellham and fifteen nieces and nephews. On Thursday May 3rd, in keeping with her wishes, Ruth Ann’s ashes were scattered in the waters off the reef in Waikiki. |
