YVONNE KENNEDY BROWN
Yvonne Kennedy Brown, 85, of Stockton, CA., passed away on April 11, 2018, following a battle with cancer.
Yvonne was born in Stockton in 1933. She attended UC Berkeley where she obtained an undergraduate degree while being an active member of the Pi Beta Phi Sorority. She later pursued and received a Masters degree in Special Education from the University of the Pacific (UOP). Following college at Berkeley, she moved to Honolulu, Hawaii, where she met Rolla O. Brown, Jr. They were married in 1958 in Carmel Valley and lived in Honolulu until 1983. She returned to Stockton after the death of Rolla and taught school in Stockton for the next 10 years.
Yvonne was always generous with her time, and was most proud of her work with Punahou School in Hawaii, and the Opera Guild and Chorale in Stockton. She was also active with the Haggin Museum, Stockton Symphony, Childrens Home and other organizations. She loved to travel and was fortunate to have visited many places in the United States and abroad. One of her favorite annual escapes was going up to Lake Tahoe for a few weeks in the Summer. She also played bridge weekly with life-long friends, as well as dominoes.
Yvonne is survived by her two sons, Rolla "Rob" O. Brown, III and Walter "Walt" K. Brown.
The family of Yvonne wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the Administrators, Care Specialists, Nurses, all of O’Connor Woods, and to Hospice of San Joaquin and her countless friends and family during her final series of illnesses.
A Memorial Service will be held on May 19th at the Chapel on the campus of O’Connor Woods at 10:00 a.m. A reception will follow. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Stockton Country Club from 11:30 to 3:30. In lieu of flowers, donations in her honor may be given to the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice. |
