Edna was born in Illinois into the large farming family of Henry and Alta Jaenke. In Illinois she met and married David Shoup. They would be together for 70 years. They fell in love with Hawai’i and moved there in the mid-1960s. David soon started a successful jewelry business, while Edna earned an M.A. at the University of Hawai’i. Edna delighted in Hawaiian culture, learning hula and playing the ‘ukulele. She was also a dedicated craftsperson. Over the years, Edna was also committed to community involvement. Edna was wonderful example of how to live and love. Her joyful spirit, warmth, generosity, and love of peace, truth, and justice will always remain as a gift of aloha in our hearts.
