KAHU JOHN LULUHIUALANI AWAI KALILI

A GREAT BIBLE TEACHER!

Born April 12, 1926, in Waialua to parents John and Helen Kalili and raised in Haleiwa with brothers David Kaapu, Charles, Samuel and Thomas Kalili, and sisters Elnora "Nona" (Otholt) O’Neill, Lorna "Hau’oli" Hiers, Delanette Kalili, and Amy Asano. They loved to fish, work, play sports & games, and sing.

A graduate of Kamehameha (’44), Moody Bible Institute, University of Hawaii and Princeton Theological Seminary. Also received an honorary doctorate degree from Piedmont College.

A warrior for Christ for over 70 years. Ordained as Kahu and served at the Nanaikapono Protestant Church. Then served as executive director of Christian Endeavor for the State of Hawaii. Pastored numerous Hawaiian churches throughout the state, and most recently as Kahu of the Four Cooperating Congregational Churches, at Auwaiolimu, Wahiawa, Waikane and Waimanalo. He read his Bible daily and always made God first in his life.

Married to Peggy Miura, they had three children: Daniel (RoseLee) Kalili, Joy (Samuel) Wilson, and Ruth (Al Carbonel) Kalili; eight grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. Died January 28, 2018, at home in Honolulu at the age of 91. The family looks forward to seeing him again in heaven with Christ.

Visitation 5 pm and service 6 pm at Hosoi Garden Mortuary on Monday, March 5. Visitation again 10 am and service 11 am at Hosoi on Tuesday, March 6. Burial at 2 pm Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery in Kaneohe.
