FLORENCE MINNA SCHEDLER HAYAKAWA Florence Minna Schedler Hayakawa, 89, of Raleigh was taken to the Lord on July 15, 2015. She was born in Junction City, Wisconsin, to the late Reverend Herman and Lillie Schedler. She married Masami Hayakawa in 1952 and they went to Hawaii for their honeymoon, fell in love with the islands, and stayed for the next 20 years. Flo worked the night shift at Queen’s Hospital in the lab. She started to bowl and learned to dance the hula. Quickly becoming expert in both, she eventually averaged close to 200 in bowling and became a hula instructor and professional hula dancer. She and Mas had 3 children; Thomas, Mark (Mickey), and Ann (Babe). In 1973 Flo and Mas moved to Lake Oswego, Oregon, then to San Jose, California, and finally, Raleigh, North Carolina. Predeceased by her parents and Masami, her husband of 52 years, she is survived by her children; Tom (Nancy), Mark (Lisa), and Ann (Jim); seven grandsons; Jacob, Joshua, Scott, David, Matthew, Nicholas, and Jesse; her hanai grandchildren; Drew, Reid, and Abby; and her four brothers, Bob, Richard, Harold, and Eugene. A short memorial service will be held on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. followed by inurnment with Mas at The National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl in Honolulu, Hawaii. ~ Aloha Attire ~ ln lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to The Salvation Army.
