DOROTHY MASUDA San Jose The ever fun and lively Dorothy Masuda, 98, passed away peacefully in her sleep, in the early morning of December 27, 2017, with a smile on her face. Dorothy was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii. She worked at her family’s restaurant, Fukujutei Shokudo on River Street in Honolulu. She married, Robert Masuda on June 17, 1942. She had three sons, Ronald, Donald, and Earl. The family moved to California in 1957, settling in San Mateo, where they owned and operated Fuji Sukiyaki from 1957 through 1973. Dorothy was not one to sit still, deciding to return to work at Crown Plastics. She was an active member at Sturge Presbyterian Church through her life in San Mateo. In retirement, she stayed active by volunteering her time at the San Mateo Japanese American Community Center, as volunteer coordinator and Tomodachi group member. Toward the end of her life, she suffered from dementia/Alzheimer’s, which moved her to San Jose. There she participated at Yu-Ai Kai Senior Center in Japantown. Dorothy is survived by her three children, Ronald (Patricia) Masuda, Don (Doug Baird) Masuda, Earl (Patricia) Masuda, six grandchildren Jennifer (Steve) Wong, Marianne Masuda, Bobby (EurJean) Masuda, David (Grace) Masuda, Matthew (Daphne) Masuda, Christopher Masuda and two great-grandchildren Miles Masuda and Luke Masuda. A celebration of life will be held for Dorothy on Monday, January 8, 2018, at Sturge Presbyterian Church, 25 S. Humboldt Street, San Mateo, (650) 344-6803. Please join us from noon to 2:00pm. The family has requested in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her memory to any of her favorite organizations: San Mateo Japanese American Community Center (SMJACC), Sturge Presbyterian Church, and Yu-Ai Kai.
