MILES MIN MURAKAMI September 26, 1946 October 28, 2017 71, of Pearl City, died peacefully at home on October 28, 2017. Miles was born in Puunene, Maui and graduated from Baldwin High School. After attending college in the state of Washington for a few years, he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1967 and served in Vietnam until 1970. Upon his return to Hawaii, he enrolled at the University of Hawaii at Manoa and received his bachelors degree in sociology and masters degree in social work. In 2005, after 30 years of service, he retired from the State of Hawaii, Department of Public Safety, Corrections Division as Acting Corrections Program Services Administrator/Deputy Warden, but then continued working as a counselor at Lanakila Pacific, then at Goodwill Industries until his final retirement in early 2017. Miles is survived by wife Nadine; sons Marcus (Lana) Murakami and Darren (Joy) Murakami; daughter Ashley (Cory) Okimura; grandsons Micah, Isaiah and Tyson; granddaughters Taylor, Kailee and Arden; sisters Myra (Dennis) Takara and Sharon (Hugh Spain) Murakami ; niece and nephews and their families. Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, December 3, 2017 at Mililani Memorial Park, Mauka Chapel. Visitation at 10:00 AM and Service at 11:00 AM. Casual attire.
