FLORENCE L. K. KONG KEE Florence Lois Keohokamanu Kong Kee passed away on October 7, 2017, at the age of 55. Flo will be lovingly remembered by her parents John and Lei Kong Kee, siblings Mary Kapanui, Theresa (Marshall) Kong Kee Luke, John Jr. (deceased), William, Sam (Candy), nephews Kolomona (Summer) Kapanui, Kamuela (Hoku) Kapanui, nieces Faith, Sage, grandnephews and grandniece. Growing up in Honolulu, Flo attended St. Patrick School and was a 1980 Punahou graduate. For many years she worked in the tourism and service industry sharing Hawaii’s culture and Aloha spirit. Inspired by the late U.S. Representative Patsy Mink, Flo was dedicated to making a difference in people’s lives at the policy and government level. Her talent for bringing people together led Flo to work for HSTA, the Democratic Party and UPW. At UPW Flo became a strong voice for Hawaii’s working class. Her life’s work and passion to improve the lives of the members and their families reached far across the state and nation. Flo served her faith community as a founding member of the St. Augustine Gala Dinner. She helped to raise awareness and funds for the museum honoring Hawaii’s local Saints Damien and Marianne. Flo’s life was full and large just like her love for her ohana, friends and Hawaii. She’ll be fondly remembered for sharing the Aloha spirit through her heartfelt conversations, ono cooking and willingness to kokua. A Celebration of Flo’s Life will be held at St. Augustine by-the-sea Catholic Church, 130 Ohua Ave in Waikiki on Saturday, November 18, from 9:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. followed by Mass at 12:00 p.m. Carpooling is highly recommended. Complimentary valet service will be available on Ohua Street with limited parking spaces. Public parking can also be found on nearby streets, the Zoo and Waikiki Shell. Leis and flowers are welcomed. Aloha Attire. Inurnment Services will be held at Hawaiian Memorial Park Cemetery, Hillcrest Garden Section, 45-425 Kamehameha Hwy., Kaneohe on Monday, November 20 at 11:00 a.m.
