RET. LTC. LEONARD G. KATSARSKY 81, passed unexpectededly at home on 7/17/17. Born 1/29/36 in Battle Creek, MI son of career Army Officer Col. S. Katsarsky and Faye Joseph. He attended Heidleberg H.S. in Germany and graduated from the US Military Acadamy at West Point, NY in 1959. He married his best friend Honey Jean in 1966. Described and evaluated by his superiors as a straight from the shoulders officer who’s opinions are highly respected…innovative, dynamic, and never satisfied with the status quo…He tells it the way it is, rolls with the punches without sacrificing standards and principles, and never fails to get the job done! Retired in 1980, a distinguished and decorated officer who served his country for 21yrs in a variety of challenging command and staff assignments. He worked for John Hancock and CPS focusing on matters impacting long-term care in Hawaii. His tireless efforts had been instrumental in fostering and strengthening relationships in our local community and overseas. A member of the Japanese Chamber of Commerce who served as Chairman 1997-98. Board of Directors for Pacific Asian Affairs Council and Army Museum Society. An active member of the West Point Society, Pearl Harbor Rotary and Hawaii Economic Study Club who volunteered with the March of Dimes and Caring for Life Foundation. An avid golfer, he served on Golf Committees for PAAC, the Army Museum, and Tadd Fujukawa Tournaments. In 2016 the Senate of the State of Hawaii congratulated and recognized outstanding individuals that have helped their community in a positive manner and made significant contributions to the well-being of the people of this state presenting him as the PAAC recipient of the Paul S. Bachman Award. The world has lost a truly honorable and respectable man, a role model, and leader survived by wife of 50yrs. Honey Jean, son Mark, daughter Kimberly and grandson Manoa. Service on 8/8/17 at Borthwick followed by Honor Ceremony and Burial at Punchbowl.
