MOWDY JUNGNIEN LEW February 7, 1940 – July 16, 2017 Mowdy Jungnien Lew was 77 when he passed away Sunday evening, July 16th. He was born in Kweichow, China, the youngest of five children born to Gideon Tingwei Lew and Yung Chun Wu Lew. He graduated Tunghai University with a B.A. in Ancient Chinese History and graduated University of Hawaii with a B.S. in Food Service. His career focus was always in Restaurant Management, starting at the Halekulani Hotel in 1969. He moved to the Kahala Hilton. Moving to the Miramar Hotel, he became the Restaurant Manager and later the Food and Beverage manager. He also worked briefly at the Dole Cannery Cafeteria and then at Queen Kapiolani Hotel. His final position was at the Kahala Mandarin Hotel, where he remained until his retirement in 2001. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. In retirement, he continued to work for the Chinese-language Tam Bao newspaper, as a food critic under the pen name of "Niuro Mien". He is survived by his wife Wanda Pang Lew; daughters Marjorie Ling Cordova, Diane Ch’i Lew of Honolulu; granddaughter, Kiara Cordova, brother, Yung-Chien Lew; and sisters, Anita Shan-Shan Lew Kao, Tina Tien Tien Lew Soong. Services Visitation: 9:30 am, Thursday, August 3, 2017 at Nuuanu Memorial Park and Mortuary. Services 10:30 am. Burial 2 p.m. Diamond Head Memorial Park. Aloha attire.
